Natural Solutions for Moms

If you’re reading this we bet you already know what’s heading your way… back to school germs! Although you are probably doing everything you can to prevent it from happening, sometimes your little ones getting sick is unavoidable. When this does happen, finding holistic remedies to ease your child’s symptoms naturally can make a huge difference and possibly save you a trip to the doctor’s office. Let’s break this down a little bit more.

The Holistic Approach to Children’s Health

Why take a holistic approach when it comes to your child’s health? “Holistic “ might seem like just a new buzzword, but the meaning behind it is pretty powerful. Holistic health means that we take into account every aspect of the child: physical, emotional, and spiritual. It is a much more individualized approach to addressing whatever health issues your child might be going through.  The focus is to treat the root cause of what is going on, not just the symptoms. One area that should always come into play when addressing a child’s health is nutrition.

Nutrition for Strong Immunity

It has been well documented that there is an integral link between nutrition and a child’s immune system. One way to help build your child’s immunity is to include certain immune-boosting foods into their diet. Some examples of foods that you can incorporate into their diet to increase immunity are:

  • fish oil
  • berries
  • leafy greens
  • nuts and seeds
  • citrus fruits
  • poultry
  • brightly colored veggies
  • yogurt
  • spices

Natural Remedies for Common Childhood Ailments

The following are some examples of holistic remedies for common childhood ailments your child might benefit from.

  • Colds and congestion: Your child might find relief with natural remedies like saline nasal drops, steam inhalation, and honey-based cough syrup.
  • Digestive troubles: This is one ailment that we KNOW you want out of your house as quickly as possible! Some solutions include ginger tea, probiotics, and the BRAT diet (feeding your child bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast to help bind).
  • Skin issues: Depending on the severity, remedies for skin issues can  include oatmeal baths, aloe vera gel, and coconut oil for dry skin.
  • Sleep problems: There are many reasons your child’s sleep routine can be disrupted. Natural approaches like lavender oil aromatherapy and establishing bedtime routines can help get them back on track.

Holistic Lifestyle Practices

Holistic lifestyle practices can contribute to children’s health in positive ways. Including safe and effective herbs and supplements, such as echinacea, elderberry syrup, and omega-3 fatty acids are great for boosting immunity. Trying to incorporate and encourage outdoor play and physical activity, as long as your child is able, can help physically, as well as improve their mood. As mentioned above, the importance of sleep hygiene cannot be stressed enough. There is also a lot to be said about reducing screen time and promoting family time. Finally, making the switch to a toxin-free home environment can really improve the symptoms of countless ailments.
