Tips for Moms to Rebuild Your Self-Esteem

Angela M  |  12 July 2023

As a mom, it is incredibly easy to be hard on ourselves. We are constantly analyzing every little detail of our lives and our children’s lives, wondering if what we are doing is enough. This can lead to some seriously negative self-talk which can cause you to spiral. It’s important to recognize that these feelings do not define you.

Your self-esteem and self-image are actually more important than you think. Whether you realize it or not, your children pick up on this and behavior is learned by what is modeled. Let’s show them what self-love looks like and build our children up.

STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS

Just stop. Most of what you see on social media, the internet, and television is not based on reality. Expectations have been set for everything from your looks, what you cook, how you parent (oh, the judgment of parenting), and anything else you can think of.

Turn it all off. It is impossible to meet every crazy expectation society has set. All you need to focus on is you and your family. What is best for you? What makes you happy? You will find more peace when you let go of what you think you should be doing and just do what you feel is right.

BE KIND TO YOURSELF

Really pay attention to how you talk to yourself. Are you constantly putting yourself down when you feel like you are not good enough? It’s easy to be hard on yourself, but intentionally practicing positive self-talk is an important habit to work on. A good rule of thumb is, if you wouldn’t say it to someone you care about then you shouldn’t say it to yourself. We’re all doing the best we can, and that includes you! So, be kind to yourself.

TRY SOMETHING NEW

Sometimes it is helpful to change things up when you are not feeling your best. This might be the perfect time to change something up, like a new hair cut or color! It can be invigorating to try something new and give a boost to your confidence.

It’s also important to spend some time on yourself when it can feel like your life revolves around the rest of your family. A new skill or hobby is a great way to spend some quality time on yourself and discover what you can do! Keeping your own identity is extremely important.

YOU’VE GOT THIS!

You CAN make yourself a priority and build back your self-confidence. Take it one step at a time and remember, above all else, to please be kind to yourself. You are strong, you are worthy, and you deserve to live your best life.
